KIM DUFFIN WINS 2011 KBDI AUSTRALIAN KITCHEN DESIGNER OF THE YEAR

Australian designer Kim Duffin CKD AU has taken out the coveted “KBDi Australian Kitchen Designer of the Year 2011” award at the recent KBDi DESIGN20eleven National Awards, held on Saturday 23^rd July. Sponsored by Smeg, this top award was presented at a sumptuous gala evening that was the fitting end to another successful two-day conference for kitchen and bathroom professionals.

KBDi Executive Director Alex Milne said the awards, once again, recognised the top calibre of kitchen and bathroom designers who are leading the way in innovative, solution-based design. “I’m proud that we have maintained the high standards set over the previous two awards series and that our members have challenged themselves to continually raise the bar in all facets of kitchen and bathroom design,” Alex added.

Kim’s entry was also awarded the “KBDi Kitchen Designer of the Year 2011 QLD” and the “KBDi Designer - Large Kitchens QLD 2011” award.

The judges commented on the excellence of this design, which they said featured a perfect balance of form, function, and contemporary styling. “For its inspiration, the design relied on the natural bushland that surrounds the home and a glass splashback effectively brings the outside in,” the judges said. “A key feature, the island, houses a bespoke stainless steel sink and integrated dishwasher”.

KBDi is the only national organisation exclusively for kitchen and bathroom designers. The KBDi Awards acknowledge the excellence in design, innovation, talent and professionalism of kitchen and bathroom designers in Australia.

SUBLIME WINS MULTIPLE HIA KITCHEN & BATHROOM AWARDS

Brisbane based Sublime Cabinet Design took out multiple awards for a St Lucia kitchen tonight at the 2010 HIA-CSR Queensland Housing Awards. Their first award on the night was for Kitchen Project $30,000 - $50,000 which was partnered by Miele.

Later in the evening Sublime Cabinet Design was awarded Queensland Kitchen Project of the Year and Queensland Kitchen Design of the Year for the same project.Both awards were partnered by Laminex.

Judges commented that the kitchen exemplifies artisan qualities with attention to detail in every sense possible.

Sublime Cabinet Design was also a finalist in the Kitchen Project $30,000 - $50,000 category for a project in Ascot.

The company will now represent Queensland in the Australian Housing Awards on the Gold Coast in May 2011.

Congratulating Sublime Cabinet Design, HIA Regional Director, Warwick Temby said the HIA awards recognise the achievements, both of companies and individuals in the state, who lead the way in the design, construction, innovation and technology of housing.

“Every year our entries increase, but there is never a dilution of quality,” he said. “The awards are a strong statement of the commitment of HIA members in Queensland and Northern Rivers to deliver quality housing that will stand the test of time. The evidence tonight shows they have risen to the challenge.”

Mr Temby said the awards night had been well supported by the building industry. “Without the involvement of our many partners, and especially CSR, important industry events like this would not be possible,” he said.

HIA is Australia’s peak building industry body representing more than 45,000 builders, suppliers and trade contractors. The Australian industry is responsible for development projects, new homes, renovations and additions worth about $43 billion each year and generating 350,000 jobs.

KIM DUFFIN WINS 2009 KBDI AUSTRALIAN CERTIFIED DESIGNER OF THE YEAR

It was a night of celebration for Kim Duffin awarded with two titles, including the prestigious Australian Certified Designer of the Year award, at the 2009 KBDi Kitchen & Bathroom Design Awards. Kim also receives an all inclusive trip to Eurocucina 2010 - International Kitchen Furniture Trade Show in Milan, Italy.

The Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute of Australia (KBDi) is proud to announce the finest kitchen and bathroom designers in Australia as awarded at the first ever KBDi Kitchen & Bathroom Design Awards. The Awards were held in front of an audience representing Australia’s leading designers and industry professionals at the Holiday Inn on the Gold Coast on Saturday 12 September.

The judges commented that “This kitchen was designed for an active young family – on the go, who wanted a funky vibrant space that acted as both a place to prepare daily meals but also somewhere to come together as a family. The flowing lines, vibrant colours and high level functionality are features of this unusual kitchen.” The criteria for the Certified Designer of the year award places considerable emphasis on the technical aspects of design and presentation, including the ergonomics and safety guidelines in kitchen layout, quality of the drawings, specifications and design statement. The judges commented that this entry was “a beautifully presented design which displays complete professionalism. A clever design which clearly met the client’s brief”.

Congratulating all the winners, KBDi Executive Director Alex Milne said the Awards recognise the achievements of individual designers represented in Australia who lead the way in design, innovation and technology of kitchens and bathrooms.

“We were overwhelmed with the support received from designers Australia-wide for these inaugural Awards”, Alex Milne said. “Not only were we excited with the number of entries but more importantly the quality of entries. The Awards are a strong statement of the commitment of KBDi members to deliver quality design and not afraid to be innovative and creative in their designs”.
